The Inaugural TMA Day Celebration
The Tina McElroy Ansa Estate invites you to join us for the inaugural Tina McElroy Ansa Day, an annual celebration honoring the life, work, influence, and enduring legacy of acclaimed author, teacher, mentor, and cultural voice Tina McElroy Ansa.
Observed each year near Tina’s November 18 birthday, TMA Day is being established as the Estate’s signature annual celebration and a recurring opportunity for readers, writers, scholars, educators, former students, colleagues, family, friends, and new generations to gather around Tina’s work and the communities she helped shape.
This inaugural virtual celebration will bring Tina’s extended community together for an evening of conversation, remembrance, literary reflection, and connection.

Hosted Virtually
On what would have been Tina’s 77th birthday, we invite you to spend the evening with us as we celebrate the many dimensions of her life and legacy.
Through a guided conversation featuring family, friends, literary colleagues, educators, mentees, and members of Tina’s wider community, we will explore Tina’s influence, literature, and the vision for her estate.
The evening will offer space for stories, memories, reflection, and discussion about the impact Tina made as a writer, mentor, friend, and cultural force. Guests will also hear updates about the work now underway through the Tina McElroy Ansa Estate and the efforts being made to preserve, strengthen, and extend her literary and cultural legacy for future generations.
We will also share ways for readers and supporters to remain connected to Tina’s work throughout the year.
Who Is Invited?
Whether you knew Tina personally, encountered her through one of her books, studied her work in a classroom, heard her speak, learned from her as a student or writer, or are discovering her for the first time, you are warmly invited to join us.
TMA Day is designed to bring together both those who carry personal memories of Tina and those encountering her work across new generations.
Your Tina Story Matters
Tina’s legacy lives on in her published work, the stories she told, the relationships she built, the conversations she inspired, and the photographs, programs, and memories carried by the people whose lives intersected with hers.
As the Estate continues to preserve and build the historical record surrounding Tina’s life and work, we will invite the community to share memories, photographs, documents, recordings, and other materials that may help us deepen that record.
If you knew Tina, worked with her, learned from her, read her, taught her work, attended one of her programs, or were changed by something she created, we would love to hear from you. Details to be announced during TMA Day.

An Annual Tradition Begins
The inaugural Tina McElroy Ansa Day marks the beginning of an annual tradition centered on reading, remembering, preserving, and extending Tina’s legacy.
A literary legacy remains alive when the archive is built, work is read, the stories are remembered, the history is preserved, and new generations are invited in.
We look forward to celebrating Tina with you.
